A drink for you a drink for me

Just imagine powering your next cellphone the same way you power yourself, Sweets and Carbonated Beverages. Sony has developed batteries that charge themselves by breaking down sugar. And soon hopefully we can own one for they have made remote control cars that use these sugar batteries and the cars drive faster depending on how sugary the liquid used to power them is. I think that Car races should be used to test sugar levels in all of my beverages.  Love it, love it. Electronics with a sweet tooth. :)

Now how long before they design one of these to be surgically embedded into the stomach so that we can cut down on our sugar consumption without, you know, consuming less sugar. But in the techogeeks happy future the stomach battery could be used to power an induction charger so you can charge up your cellphone every time you place it into your pocket.

  1. hahaha! Wow... That's pretty crazy. Crazy... Warping me mind. I like it. :)

No more soda! No more soda!

Just jokin. I know that's not what they are saying. But more people would drink it less maybe... and it would be healthier...

Heck, the battery itself is uber cool. :)

  2. "We hope to achieve practical applications of this technology in the future."

What? These sugar batteries pack a ton of power, use eco friendly enzymes as catalysts, and can be recharged with a shot of Coke. How can they not have practical applications now? What could be better than a battery that never has to be plugged in for a few hours before it becomes useful again?

The only thing I can see slowing widespread adoption of these things is the fact that current electronics are built to accept conventional batteries and it's tough to convince the world to switch over to an entirely new generation of technology (except the music industry, but they're opportunistic sharks and not to be trusted).

  3. No the problem is practically these are not going to be making it into electronics and gadgets any time soon, see the size of those batteries, noone is going to be buying a cell phone or laptop twice the size because they can run it off sugar. No we prefer portability to anything these can offer. However if they could make large ones these would be exciting to have out on a hobby farm or somewhere people are growing sugar beets. Need to do some laundry, throw some beets in your generators and then have at it. However that is not really a practical application now is it. Sigh, perhaps these will remain locked in the land of cool but impractical, same with kitchen worms and composting feces.
